Based upon the GCSE & AS-Level syllabus
The IBO competition is open to students in the first year of post-16 education (Y12 in England and Wales, Y13 in Northern Ireland, S5 in Scotland and equivalent year groups worldwide). The competition consists of a one-hour multiple-choice paper, taken online under supervised exam conditions. Questions may cover unfamiliar topics, requiring students to apply core biological principles and critical thinking skills.

British Biology Olympiad
Description:
The British Biology Olympiad (BBO) challenges and stimulates students with an interest in biology to expand and extend their talents. It enables students to demonstrate their talent and to be suitably rewarded with publicly recognized certificates and medals.

The BBO is open to students in post-16 education studying at school or college. The competition consists of two, 45-minute multiple-choice papers to be taken online under staff supervised exam conditions. Students will be presented with topics and ideas which they are not familiar with, so will compete with their problem-solving skills and understanding of core principles.
